On 4 January His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onuphry received Advisor to the Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Yuriy Tandit and military men, defenders of Donetsk airport, in his residence in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the Holy Dormition. It is reported by the UOC Information and Education Department.

Senior lieutenant Sergey Biloshytsky, who defended Donetsk airport with 90th separate airmobile battalion, expressed his gratitude to His Beatitude for releasing his comrade-in-arms Taras Kolodiy and handed a gift to the Primate.

“On behalf of our Zhytomir brotherhood we want to gift you with a flag. On the flag you can see signatures of the guys, who served in a special reconnaissance group of the 90th separate airmobile battalion. Lots of them took part in All-Ukrainian Cross Procession in the summer. Our guys sent you congratulations and wished you many years to come. We are very grateful to you!”

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry transferred donations to “cyborgs” for rehabilitation and treatment of Ukrainian army men.

Words of thankfulness were addressed to the UOC Primate by Advisor to the Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine Yuriy Tandit. “You are doing a lot for us, thanks to your efforts Taras Kolodiy was freed from his captivity. I hope, our Mother-Church will further guide ordinary people, our nation, and our soldiers. I am sure we will take joint efforts in the future and you will help us,” he remarked.

His Beatitude also expressed his hope for continued cooperation. “Our Church has always been with those in distress. Some accuse us for that, others praise, but in any case we fulfill our duty,” he underscored.
