UNO calls on Ukraine to urgently inquire into activities of “Mirotvorets” site

In the UN Report on the human rights situation in Ukraine, published on 12 September, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) calls on the authorities of the country to conduct investigation of the activities of “Mirotvorets” (Peacemaker) site.

The OHCHR is positive about the fact the Ukrainian “National police have opened a criminal proceeding against the “Mirotvorets” site, which starting from August 2014 has been engaged in publishing personal data of thousands of people, including media-experts and NGO activists, calling them advocates of armed groups and “terrorism”.

The UN urges the authorities to conduct an effective investigation and take measures to remove personal data from the “Mirotvorets” site.

The site listed the name of Vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra, Metropolitan of Pochaev Vladimir, for his appeals to believers "to persuade not by the force of arms, but by the power of words." "Peacemaker" qualified these words as "the denial of Russian aggression, the introduction into the public consciousness of the concept that the Ukrainian authorities benefit from military action, that there is a "civil war" in Ukraine.”

Metropolitan of Kyiv Patriarchate John (Yaremenko) consecrated the icon ”All-seeing Eye of the Lord” for the “Mirotvorets” site.
