Poroshenko says that four Churches split Ukraine
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko
The head of the state thanked the Verkhovna Rada for "a unique unity, except for one faction", when adopting an appeal to Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople. He said this on May 19, during a working trip to the Khmelnitsky region, reports "Gordon".
"Four Churches split the country. One Church unites the country. And we, as the air, need unity in conditions of external aggression," Poroshenko said.
He added that he firmly believes that "Ukraine will receive the Church with God's help."
Earlier, the President of Ukraine said that Ukraine does not need four different Orthodox Churches and explained that the country is closer than ever to the creation of the Single Local Church.
On April 19, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appeal to Patriarch Bartholomew about the creation of the Single Local Church in Ukraine. The Opposition Bloc faction did not vote for the document.
