Filaret’s anniversary proposed to be celebrated at the state level

Head of the UOC KP Filaret

The 90th anniversary of Filaret Denisenko has been proposed to be celebrated at the state level. The corresponding proposal was included into the draft Resolution 9234 on the celebration of memorable dates and anniversaries in 2019, which is registered on the Verkhovna Rada website on October 23.

The draft proposes to celebrate at the state level: “January 23 – the 90th anniversary of the birth of an Orthodox church leader, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate Filaret (1929) (in the world - Denisenko Mikhail Antonovich)”.

In addition, it was proposed to celebrate 100 years since the adoption by the Directorate of the Ukrainian National Republic (UNR) of the decree on the higher authority of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The document with the list of dates and anniversaries was submitted for consideration by the committees of the Parliament.

One of the authors of the Resolution is MP Viktor Yelensky, also known as the creator of the anti-church bill No. 4128, which has not been adopted by the Verkhovna Rada so far.

Earlier, the President congratulated Filaret on the anniversary of the “enthronement" and thanked the head of the Kiev Patriarchate "for many years of service and his efforts to create the Single Local Orthodox Church of Ukraine".
