On September 22, 2019, the clergy of the Greek Orthodox Church, who were on a pilgrimage visit in Kiev, concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. At the end of the service, Greek clergy called on the Ukrainians to remain faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under their Primate His Beatitude Onuphry. Finally, they made a call to the archbishops of Greece on the eve of the meeting of the hierarchs of the Greek Church and the possible adoption of a decision on the Ukrainian church issue.
The text of the address of the GOC delegation, which included the abbot of the monastery of the Holy Prophet Elijah of Hydra Archimandrite Theologos Grigoriatis, Archpriest Nikolaos Savvopoulos, an ex-representatives of the Church of Greece in the European Union, and Hieromonk Hierofei Savopoulos, is published on September 23 the Greek resource “Romfea”.
We recall that on September 11, 2019, representatives of the clergy, monks and laymen of the Greek Orthodox Church published an open letter on the “Ukrainian issue” to Archbishop Jerome of Athens and All Greece and the bishops urging the hierarchs not to recognize the OCO by sole authority, contrary to the position of other Churches. The letter collected 1000 signatures.
