The first heart surgery took place in the clinic of St. Luke at the Ascension Monastery of the UOC in Bancheny village (Chernivtsi region). The operation was performed by the Honored Doctor of Ukraine, General Director of the Kyiv Heart Institute Boris Todurov. He announced this on his Facebook page.

“The team of the Heart Institute, together with the team of St. Luke’s Clinic, performed the first heart operation – mitral valve repair,” said the cardiac surgeon. “The result is good. I really hope that this was only the first step, and we will start a new wave of cardiac surgeries in this hospital.”

Boris Todurov noted that the patient, who did not have the opportunity to go to Kyiv for treatment, was operated on completely free of charge – the clinic at the Bancheny Monastery covered the costs.

The head of the Heart Institute thanked all the doctors who participated in the preparation and conduct of the operation, and the vicar of the Chernivtsi diocese of the UOC, Bishop Kleopa of Novoselytsia, who has a medical education and oversees the clinic of St. Luke.

As the UOJ reported, MP of Ukraine Artem Dmytruk wrote on his Telegram channel that he asks the Lord to admonish the authorities persecuting the abbot of the Ascension Bancheny Monastery, Metropolitan Longin.
