The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Apostolic Nuncio to the Baltic States, Archbishop Petr Raich, to explain the Pope's statement about the great Russia, reports LRT.
"The Foreign Ministry has invited Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Petar Rajic for a conversation in early September when he returns from holiday," the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Paulina Levitskyte said.
Earlier, during an online meeting with young Russian Catholics, the head of the RCC called them "heirs of the great Mother Russia – an enlightened empire, a country of great culture and great humanity". The Pope urged to "never give up this legacy".
The head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, said that the Uniates were waiting for an explanation from the Vatican about these statements.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that "it is precisely such imperialist propaganda <...> that the Kremlin justifies the killing of thousands of Ukrainians and Ukrainian women and the destruction of hundreds of Ukrainian towns and villages."
Later, Shevchuk said that the Pope dwells in the sweet lies of Russian propaganda.
