On November 27, 2023, 565 items of "Scythian gold" weighing a total of 2,694 kg were delivered to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra for identification. This information was reported by the press service of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.
In particular, antique sculptures, Scythian and Sarmatian jewelry, and Chinese lacquer boxes that are two thousand years old were returned to Ukraine from the Netherlands, where cultural values had been kept for nine years.
The "Scythian gold" was returned to Ukraine following the court decisions of the first appellate and cassation instances in the Netherlands.
The authorities of annexed Crimea insisted that the exhibits should return to Crimea. However, the court ruled to return the "Scythian gold" to Ukrainian museums.
"During legal disputes, our museum was designated as the storage location for the collections of Crimean museums. This means that the museum will make maximum efforts to preserve them and to allow citizens and guests of Ukraine to see them. At the same time, since the collection has gained international political resonance, its condition and further fate will now be closely monitored by the world," said Fedor Androshchuk, the director-general of the National Museum of History.
As reported by the UOJ, Ukraine demanded that Russia return the mosaics of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.
