Bulgarian Orthodox Church elects a locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne

On March 19, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church took place, according to the B.N.T. website.
Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa was elected as the locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne. He will also oversee the Sofia diocese until the election of a new patriarch.
After the passing of Patriarch Neophyte of the BOC, the locum tenens and the Synod will convene a patriarchal election council, which is expected to elect a new Primate within four months.
As reported by the UOJ, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church published a list of metropolitans – candidates for the patriarchal throne following the death of Patriarch Neophyte of the BOC.
