The International Human Rights Alliance "Church Against Xenophobia and Discrimination" announced that they had prepared the case of the abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, Metropolitan Arseniy (Yakovenko), for consideration by the UN, as stated on the Alliance's Telegram channel.
It is planned that the case of the unwarranted detention of Bishop Arseniy in pre-trial detention will be heard during the 56th session of the UN HRC (18 June - 12 July 2024), during meetings dedicated to the report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine.
Human rights defenders will also take steps to further publicise the process regarding the UOC hierarch at the international level.
"We once again urge the Ukrainian authorities to change the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Arseniy to a more lenient one and immediately transfer his case to court for a judicial verdict during an open trial," the human rights defenders wrote.
As reported, an appellate court was held in Dnipro, where the case of changing the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Arseniy was heard. The judges left the verdict unchanged: detention until 22 June 2024, without the right to bail.
