American lawyer for the UOC Robert Amsterdam reacted to the calls of MPs, particularly the leader of the "European Solidarity" party Petro Poroshenko, to bring anti-church bill 8371 to the session hall on July 23, stating that Poroshenko should be tried as a state traitor for lobbying it. He wrote this on his X social media platform.
"Poroshenko should be under investigation for treason. Anyone who tries to pass #8371 when Vance is the Vice President is simply out of their mind. He cannot inflict greater harm on Ukraine than by attempting to pass this bill today," noted the lawyer.
Amsterdam also stated that these actions by Poroshenko's supporters are an attack on President Zelensky and his authority.
"This is an attempt to completely destroy his authority in the West. In the West, everyone agrees that this bill is illegal. And it represents Ukraine in the worst possible light," wrote Amsterdam.
As reported by the UOJ, Mykyta Poturaev is initiating the tabling of the law to ban the UOC before the Rada on July 23.
