His Beatitude leads festivities in honor of Venerable Anthony of the Caves

On the feast day of Venerable Anthony of the Caves, the founder of monasticism in Rus, July 23, 2024, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine led the festive service at the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported by the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

The Primate celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Venerable Agapitus of the Caves. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were: Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, Chairman of the UOC Department for External Church Relations; Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC; Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky, Chairman of the Information and Education Department of the UOC; hierarchs; clergy of the Lavra; and guest clergy.

After the reading of the Holy Gospel, His Beatitude addressed the faithful with a sermon, in which he spoke about the life and deeds of Venerable Anthony of the Caves.

During the special litany, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and deliverance from the enemy. The Primate asked God for mercy for the Ukrainian people, that the Lord would grant wisdom to the authorities, strengthen the soldiers with courage, free the captives, heal the sick, and shelter those who are homeless.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry ordained Yevhen Tymchenko, a cleric of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Boyarka, as a deacon.

After the Liturgy, the clergy, led by the Primate, performed a moleben to Venerable Anthony.

His Beatitude congratulated the name-day celebrants on their heavenly patron's day and all the faithful on the patronal feast of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

As the UOJ previously reported, the Primate of the UOC spoke about the faith that earned the Lord's praise.
