On September 2 at 22:05, supporters of the OCU seized the Dormition Cathedral in the city of Zolotonosha, Cherkasy Eparchy. To prevent UOC parishioners and clergy from interfering with the church raid, the approaches to the church were blocked. UOJ sources report that the UOC religious community, led by the church’s rector, remained loyal to the canonical Church. The priest asked parishioners not to engage in the conflict, which the OCU representatives had anticipated.
As a result, in the morning, Dumenko's organization reported the seizure of the cathedral. Anticipating that the UOC community might protest at the church, they invited OCU supporters "for prayer". The OCU priest referred to the UOC believers as "actors and extras of the Moscow Patriarchate".
As reported by the UOJ, the OCU supporters initially planned to seize the Dormition Cathedral on September 4. OCU cleric Roman Lychak re-registered the UOC parish under his name, appointing himself as its director.
