On Ukraine's Unity Day, the "Altar of Freedom" art project was unveiled in Kyiv, symbolically uniting the country's 27 regions through unique and authentic icons. This was reported by Espreso.
According to the report, the project is aimed at "preserving national spirituality and uniting religious denominations, as well as showcasing the spiritual and cultural heritage of the state."
The work represents a map of Ukraine divided into 27 regions, with each region symbolized by an icon painted on armor plates from the bulletproof vests of Ukraine’s defenders.
"In 2023, we started the 'Altar of Freedom' project. Throughout the year, we recreated the story of each icon and interacted with representatives of the clergy. We received significant help and support from His Beatitude Epifaniy and his team," said the project's author, Oleksandr Kovalchuk.
According to the creators, the 27 icons symbolize Ukraine's 24 regions, the Republic of Crimea, and the cities of Sevastopol and Kyiv. The project can be viewed in the main building of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
As reported by the UOJ, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky assured of Ukraine's 'sobornist' on Unity Day.
