Coffin with the Church Primate's body arrives in Albania

On January 28, 2025, the faithful of the Albanian Orthodox Church welcomed the coffin with the body of the late Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, the UOJ in Greece reports.

The reception ceremony of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania took place at the Kakavijë border crossing on the Albanian side, in the presence of Metropolitan Dimitrios of Gjirokastër, clergy, and believers.

The coffin with the body was brought into the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Gjirokastër.

As reported by the UOJ, during a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church, it was decided to receive the body of the late Archbishop in front of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana on Tuesday, January 28. The body will then be placed inside the cathedral for public veneration throughout the night until the following day, Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
