In Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, a man attacked a cleric of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) with a wrench. According to Hromadske, the incident took place on January 28 in the Cathedral of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr of the OCU.
Kyiv Region Police reported that a 33-year-old man assaulted a 50-year-old cleric, striking him multiple times with a wrench due to personal animosity.
Law enforcement officials did not specify the name of the church or its jurisdiction, but Hromadske identified it as an OCU cathedral based on photographs.
The attacker was detained, and a pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to hooliganism. The article provides for a prison sentence ranging from three to seven years.
As previously reported by the UOJ, prayers in an OCU church in Krekhayiv were allegedly used as toilet paper.
