Rector of Brovary cathedral shares details of the attempted seizure

Rector of the Peter and Paul Cathedral Alexander Levchuk

In the city of Brovary in the Kyiv region, representatives of the OCU, with the support of local authorities, are trying to seize the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, which belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was reported by the rector of the church, Archpriest Alexander Levchuk, in his address to the believers.

According to the priest, on March 13, 2025, the church was illegally re-registered from the UOC to the OCU. After that, government officials demanded that the rector hand over the keys to the church building.

“They talked about me giving up the keys and then everything would be fine, but we did not give in along with the parishioners and remained in the church, we did not agree to this,” the priest said.

The raiders planned to bring people to replace the locks in the church, but the rector called the police. Law enforcement officers accepted a statement about an attempt to raid the church building.

“I hope that the truth will prevail and we will be able to celebrate the Bright Resurrection of Christ in our church,” the rector noted.

He also recalled that the temple was built through the efforts of parishioners over many years and is a “pearl of the soul” for the believers of the UOC.

Father Alexander emphasized that all these events are happening during Lent, because “Satan, as before, is active and does not allow the faithful children of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to go to their churches.”

Earlier, the Union of Orthodox Christians of Bukovina wrote that in 2025, 16 parishes of the UOC were “transferred” to the OCU.
