On March 18, 2025, the Sosnivka District Court of Cherkasy decided not to extend the measure of restraint in the form of house arrest during the night period for Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv. This was reported by the Suspilne publication.
Metropolitan Theodosiy joined the court hearing online.
During the hearing, prosecutor Vadim Kolomiets petitioned to extend the UOC hierarch's pre-trial detention in the form of house arrest during the night for two months.
The bishop's lawyer, Volodymyr Yudin, responded to this by stating that "we are reviewing these petitions once again and nothing has changed, only the dates." According to Yudin, the prosecutor's petition is formalized. In turn, he petitioned for a preventive measure in the form of a personal obligation.
Addressing the court, the bishop asked to refuse the prosecutor's office, noting that he cannot normally carry out his activities due to these restrictions and confirmed the words of the defense attorney that "the prosecutor does not even try to rewrite the petition, add something there or remove obvious things." He also accused the prosecutor of bias.
While the participants of the meeting were waiting for the judge to leave the deliberation room, the bishop felt ill and an ambulance was called for him. This was reported by the lawyer of the ruling bishop of the Cherkasy Eparchy, Vladimi Yudin. According to him, Metropolitan Theodosiy's blood pressure rose.
As a result, the court decided to release Metropolitan Theodosiy on personal recognizance.
As the UOJ wrote, the Cherkasy metropolitan previously told how many priests had left for the OCU.
