Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus of the Greek Orthodox Church expressed his support for the idea of convening a Pan-Orthodox Council, writes ekklisiaonline.gr.

Metropolitan Seraphim recalled his previous statements that the Patriarch of Constantinople had no right to restore the clergy of the Russian Church, who had been defrocked, and that this was contrary to the canons. At the same time, he believes, the question of whether the leadership of the Alexandrian Church went into schism should also be decided by the fullness of the Church. Under these conditions, the hierarch defends the idea of convening a Pan-Orthodox Council.

“I must say that the request for the Convening of a Pan-Orthodox Synod, as the Archbishop of Albania Anastasios very wisely pointed out in his inspired statement, becomes necessary in favour of never before. It is an urgent need to overcome this crisis between the Churches,” said Metropolitan Seraphim.

As reported, the Church of Alexandria wants to convene a meeting of only representatives of 5 Churches.
