ROC hierarch: LGBT propaganda is a great tragedy of Western society
On February 5, 2022, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk, the chairman of the DECR ROC, said that the propaganda of an unnatural lifestyle is a great tragedy of Western society, reports the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In the program "Church and World", the ROC hierarch commented on the news that Florida Republicans intend to ban LGBT propaganda and discussion of sexual orientation in primary schools.
Vladyka believes that "it can sometimes be very difficult for us to understand what is going on in Western society," but in essence, "the point is that the entire moral code on which people’s lives have been built for centuries has been crossed out."
The metropolitan said that "an immoral way of life is being legitimised, and this is happening at primary school level when children in lower grades are being taught that homosexuality is good; if you are a boy or a girl by biological sex, it does not mean anything, you must determine yourself which sex you want to belong to; if you want to belong to the opposite sex, then doctors will help you and do the surgery".
"There is massive propaganda of unnatural vices, an unnatural way of life, thus destroying the family, the traditional family way of life. It turns out that the minority dictates its will to the majority – I think this is a great tragedy of Western society. Some are already beginning to realize it, as evidenced by the facts you just cited," the hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church concluded.
As reported, RCC representatives in Germany demanded a revision of the Church's teaching on LGBT people.
