VR Committee urges local govts to solve the "language issue" in UOC temples
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy appealed to local authorities, religious figures, media and representatives of education with to address the problem of "destruction of Ukrainian identity and language" in the church environment. This was reported on the official website of the State Committee.
According to the deputies, Ukrainian believers do not have enough opportunities to meet their spiritual needs in the Ukrainian language, and not all sacred texts are available in it.
“Religious figures, the media, representatives of education and science, public authorities and local governments should be assisted in drawing attention to this problem and its comprehensive and objective solution,” says the Recommendations issued by the State Committee following the results of hearings on threats to the national security of Ukraine associated with the activities of religious organizations.
Recall that Archpriest Alexei Dobosh gave an extensive coverage of the main historical and philological positions on how the Church-Slavonic language arose, whether or not it is alien to Ukrainians, and whether it is possible to translate the service into Ukrainian.
As the UOJ reported, the Verkhovna Rada is confident that the consequences of the forced Russification of the 18th-20th centuries in Ukraine have not yet been overcome.
