UOC discusses translation of the Bible with national Bible Societies
The group, headed by Michael Perreau, Director General of the United Bible Societies, also included the heads of Scottish, Norwegian and British Bible societies.
Metropolitan Antony told the guests about the situation with translations and distribution of the Bible in Ukraine, a new draft translation of the New Testament, which is made by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for liturgical purposes. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation and remembered the difficult Soviet times when possession of the Scripture was regarded as a state crime.
Internal affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the situation in the country in general were also discussed at the meeting. Guests talked about the celebration of the "Holy Word of God," and other projects carried out by the Ukrainian Bible Society this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Society.
At the end of the meeting, the guests received gifts and after its completion venerated the shrines of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
